DVD burning with DSL 3.1?Forum: Other Help Topics Topic: DVD burning with DSL 3.1? started by: vees Posted by vees on Dec. 04 2006,13:36
Hi,First - congrats for the truly beautiful DSL 3.1! It is superb and (so far) seems very stable. One question though: can I burn DVDs with DSL 3.1? I need to backup data on DVD+R and DVD+RW and I also would like to make backup copies of (commercial) DVDs unto either DVD+R and DVD+RW. Which application should I use (and/or fetch from the myDSL extensions)? Many thanks! VS Posted by ^thehatsrule^ on Dec. 04 2006,15:30

Any idea if the stuff in DSL base can do cd's as well? I guess I sort of assumed they did... (cdrecord, etc.) but I'm not really much into the whole dvd phase yet.

As far as I know, burning DVDs requires additional tools not found in the DSL base, but I'm not sure about that. All I really know for sure is that I was not able to burn on DVD with cdrecord. Now that my DVD drive has gone flakey I can't verify.

TkDVD is a GUI to dvd+rw-tools and cdrecord. It's dvd+rw-tools (Not included in DSL base) that allows burning DVDs.

I had a "dead" cd-writer which I "fixed" by taking out the cables (both ends) and reseating them a few times. Maybe this could fix your drive as well. |
