Multiusers not working?Forum: Other Help Topics Topic: Multiusers not working? started by: Marcux Posted by Marcux on Dec. 06 2006,19:56
Hi all!I installed DSL with support for multiusers. I tried to add a user and login as that user, but it does not work. What am I missing? The only user I am able to login with is dsl, haven't tried root though.. Many thanks! Marcus Posted by ^thehatsrule^ on Dec. 06 2006,20:53
What did you do to add that userand to log in? Posted by Marcux on Dec. 06 2006,21:10
rightclick on desktop -> system -> addUser.Restarted computer and when you get promted for user/password, entered my new user. Marcus Posted by ^thehatsrule^ on Dec. 06 2006,21:33
Just tried using that tool and seems to work... though I used su - newuser to test log in.What kind of installation are you using? (if frugal, did you back up the users/passwords, etc.) Posted by Marcux on Dec. 06 2006,21:58

I don't see any issue with the login with a new user. Some cosmetic changes will be applied, ie., icons and Aterm.lnk default X&Y. But not any problem with the login. Perhaps you are using spaces in the username or password, or maybe some other special character? Posted by Marcux on Dec. 07 2006,15:54
At installation I choose yes when I was promted with if I wanted a multiuser system.I'm from Sweden so yes we have a couple of strange letters like, å, ä, ö. But as I know that they do not fall with in the first 128 characters of ascii, unicode, I usualy do not use them, and no not any other letters but a-z. By the way, it just hit me, isn't there a maximum of characters for password? I used a quite long one, is that the problem? I'll try with a shorter like 5 characters. I solved it!..... a big misstake by me!!! I used a too long password. With a shorter pw everything works fine! Marcus Posted by roberts on Dec. 07 2006,21:00
