DSL 3.1 with Opera 9.1 is running well now on my write-protected USB pen-drive.But, I would like to add some further protection. I know ZoneAlarm from the windows world. You don't need much experience / knowledge to use it. Today, I had a look to rc.firewall, as it is recommended by several posts here and is easy to get via the MyDSL application. Unfortunately, I didn't know how to continue with the "rcfirewall.dsl" file. There is no icon visible to click, there is no loading inside an editor possible, .. How to use it? How and where to execute? Does rc.firewall have a GUI? What else is required? iptables? Maybe there is somewhere an easy instruction for beginners? Posted by roberts on Jan. 10 2007,03:15
DSL runs with no open ports. So not many ports to block by using a firewall! However, if you wish to start a server or otherwise run a firewall... If you have simple needs the rcfirewall.dsl is as simple as using start from the menu. The displayed text upon startup is hard to read. I will look to fix that. You should look at the script itself in /etc/init.d/rc.firewall You may have to adjust for non-standard ethernet device names and such. |
