Mounting Compact Flash via USBForum: Other Help Topics Topic: Mounting Compact Flash via USB started by: andrea1110 Posted by andrea1110 on Jan. 30 2007,15:28
Hello - I have done a HD install of DSL onto a Compact Flash via IDE on the motherboard. When I remove the flash and put it on another machine on the external card reader connected USB that is up and running and logged in as root user, I can mount the drive and access all of the files on the flash (SanDisk SDCFH - UltraII). However, when I do the same thing with a different kind of flash, SanDisk SDCFB, I cannot mount the flash and access the files. Has anyone ever seen this before and is there something I can change that prevents the mounting of any flash in this fashion? I have contacted SanDisk and they said they do not support Linux or anything regarding Linux whatsoever. Thank you in advance for any help

Regardless of the flash type, is there a way to prevent the mounting my flash via USB? Some flashes will mount, some won't. I don't think it has to do with the controller firmware on the flash - it doesn't make sense - it has to be something that I did possibly, maybe?

Well if you can update the firmware, that's worth trying. How did you set up the geometry/partitions on those CF's? Posted by andrea1110 on Feb. 03 2007,15:54
Everything is in a single partition. Firmware aside, is it possible to prevent the mounting of the flash? My computer has to be left on and running sometimes, I have taken the "proper" security precautions for this, but I am afraid that someone could take the flash and mount it on another system where they are root user and access my files. You could use toram.
