I'm working in a school and I need two PCs that just run a web browser and nothing else. The PC needs to start up Firefox automatically and have nothing else on the desktop but it does need a Firefox icon in case they exit the browser. The only other thing will be something to shut down the computer but we don't want people playing with all the configuration options and they don't need to be able to change any settings.

The other thing is to be able to disable the Firefox preferences and most of the menu items in fact.

I have used a bit of Linux before now but I don't have any experience with this distro and really not a lot of technical knowledge that I can bring into this setup. It was great to have such a simple installation, put in "install" at the boot prompt, choose a few options and let it install itself all automatically and be able to run Firefox on the desktop, through our existing network.

Check out this one:

Based on DSL, opens to Firefox in fullscreen, if Firefox is closed it will automatically reopen in a second.
