I've been working with DSL for quite a while now but am in need with help in a few areas. I've already searched the forums extensively for answers to these:1. Bootsplash - where can I download the Knoppix v3.3 kernel sources? Can't find them anywhere... 2. XDM - I'd love to get a graphical login setup. Has anyone had any success installing XDM? If so, how? 3. IceWM - I'm creating a custom theme for IceWM and have found a patch so that the toolbar buttons won't have borders, though it is for version 1.2.17 while I think the icewm.uci that DSL uses it something like 1.2.24... How would I go about patching this? Would I need to install iceWM from source and ditch the .uci file? This is all on a hard drive install of DSL on an old laptop (P133, 16mb ram). So far I'm having fun breathing new life in to this old system but would love some help with the above! Posted by Juanito on Feb. 13 2007,09:54
I'm not sure what you mean by bootsplash, but you get the knoppix 3.4 iso (KNOPPIX_V3.4-2004-05-04-EN.iso) from < http://www.pctips.pl/ftp/linux_342/Knoppix%203.4.html > or you can get the kernel sources (linux-2.4.26.tar.gz) from < http://www.kernel.org > or mirror sites Posted by ^thehatsrule^ on Feb. 13 2007,15:57
1. Bootsplash as in just the bootloader (ie grub) or during DSL boot?2. apt-get will install a version that works (but will require a bit of system tweaking). The newest one also works. 3. If it is a patch for the source, then yes, you would need to recompile the sources. (Then remake the .uci !) by hard drive install, I'm assuming traditional/debian-style? |
