I have been able to save my email settings to my USB drive and actually retrieve them when I reboot. The next task is aving mail. How do I save the mail I recieve?thanks in advance Posted by ke4nt1 on Aug. 16 2004,03:15
Sounds like you added the "/home/dsl/.sylpheed" to your filetool.lst.Now add the "/home/dsl/Mail" line to your filetool.lst... Also add the /home/dsl/.phoenix for your firefox bookmarks ( change your firefox cache down to about 10-20k or so, or expect a BIG backup ) the /home/dsl/.axyftp file for your ftp sites the /home/dsl/.xmms for your xmms skins the /home/dsl/.xtdesk if you change your desktop default font etc... 73 ke4nt Posted by lostcity on Aug. 17 2004,00:34

i have added /home/dsl/Mail to the filetool.lst file and saved it. However when I reboot, there is no mail. I have noted also that I have tried to save linneighborhood, Abiword, and firefox using this same technique. I have icons on the desktop but no programs..... Firefox seems to be installing fresh rather than being saved to my pen drive. Posted by ke4nt1 on Aug. 20 2004,03:15
I don't know about backing up to your pen drive...Do you see a fresh timestamp on a file called backup.tar.gz on your pen drive? Once you add the "/home/dsl/.sylpheed" ( notice the dot ) and the "/home/dsl/Mail" to your filetool.lst in your /home/dsl directory, Save your filetool.lst . Then you access the backup utility from menu ...System-FileRestoration-Specify device You should be able to enter your pendrive ( sda1) Then run the backup like .. System-FileRestoration-Backup You should SEE the files being copied in your shell window.. You should get a prompt to "continue" , which exits.. Now, if your MOUNT your pendrive, you should see the backup.tar.gz with a fresh timestamp... That is your backup... To restore on bootup, include the boot commands "restore=sda1" Technically , from reading, the backup/restore utility should find your pendrive and use it without all this intervention... If this fails to work, make sure you have a clean partition formatted on your pendrive, and that it mounts and can be written to normally... If this still does not work for you, try backing up to another partition on a hard drive, or even a floppy disk for just a small amount of mail.. This will verify that the process is working OK.. Then we can troubleshoot the pendrive issue separately. As to Firefox , Abiword, etc.. Are you trying to save your user settings, or the entire program? The programs are in /opt/firefox, and opt/abiword The userfiles are in: home/dsl/.phoenix ( another dot ) and home/dsl/.Abisuite ( another dot ) To restore the entire programs wihout reinstalling, you will need to add ALL FOUR files to your home/dsl/filetool.lst Expect a LARGE backup.. 73 ke4nt |
