Sigh!

Ive tried to boot DSL with several kind of cheatcodes like "knoppix lang=se" and "knoppix lang=sv" and so on but nothing works.
Its strange that Damn small linux claim to be able to do this, but in the harch world of empirical evaluation it just do not seem to do the job...

Is there ANY way that i can fix this myself?
I got a boot floppy from knoppix 3.2. "nordisknoppix", that support swedish from boot. Can i modify this boot disk in a way that it just fix the keyboardproblem and than leaves the rest to the DSL-cd or mayby there is a much easier way to fix this?

A would be very grateful for any help whatsoever in this odd problem.
I cant belive that there isnt nobody in the whole snowy kingdom of Sweden that can use this lovely piece of software because of this evil problem.

Take care!

You could try "knoppix keyboard=se". Haven't tried this, and if it doesn't work you could do this (which works):

crtl+alt+backspace  (to kill X and all X applications)
loadkeys se
startx  (to restart X)

I think the number of cheat codes that work with DSL are limited, and suspect the keyboard remapping is one of the things left out to keep the size down.
Remember it's mainly the hardware detection that is used from knoppix.

FX (lowers voice) ......believe that feather linux ( a little larger) has keyboard support.

Hi again!!

Im in DSL now and guess what!?

äöäöäåÄÅÖÄ!!!!!!!!

Yess!!! ITS ALIVE, ITS ALIVE!, My swedish keyboard finally types the letters i want it to. Thank you both alot for your advices and help. For me its this kind of stuff that makes Linux so great, the philosophy around it, its idealism and friendly socio-technological culture. In order to make a swedish keyboard work you should du as staded above, but with a small modification. It should be like this:

knoppix keyboard=se-latin1

For anyone that want to try to find his/her own language/keyboard, have a  look in:

/usr/share/keymaps/i386/qwerty

I had different ones in swedish to try out, but it helped to do it like preaviously stated;

ctr + alt + backspace.
loadkeys (the one you choose)
startx

Thanx for the tips with feather linux, ill check that one out.
A got a new question related to the topic of keyboard under DSL;

Is it possible to remaster my cd in a way that it by default loads my swedish settings and mayby also the knoppix toram option?
Has it anything to do with the boot.img file? Or is it necesary to remaster the cd from scratch like in the case that its shown at the feather linux homepage?
(a bit tricky)

So long, and thanx once again, this forum rox!!

Björn.

Glad to hear your keyboard in working!
You have three options to keep the toram and keyboard selection.
1. Make a boot floppy and edit the syslinux.cfg file there (to the default append).
2. If your target machine has a small hard drive or even some space space for partitions then  use frugal_install which prompts for many custom startup options
3. Remaster the CD. Again you only need to change the boot.img section.
