I haven't asked any stupid questions in a while (meaning I haven't asked ANY questions) :) , so here goes...

I'm having lots of trouble sorting out all of the issues around remastering while meeting my DSL criteria:
- full install with GNU utilities and Synaptic
- several apps which don't yet have DSL modules (but I have the .deb files)
- adding these apps to the menu
- etc...

...and I've tried remastering using the procedures posted on this board but have had several problems, particularly with installing apps in the source DSL while booted from a CD. Rather than diving in with a bunch of different posts to cover these issues, I thought I'd try to save everyone some pain and first ask if I could remaster a different way.

Looking over the DSL and Knoppix remastering instructions, I'm wondering if I could do something like the following:

1) Create three HD partitions, one swap, one for the "source" and one for the ISO target.

2) Do a complete HD install to the source partition with my desired apps and updated FLuxbox menu (this I don't have any problems doing).

3) Boot from a DSL CD and mkisofs from the source partition to the target partition.

4) Copy the resulting ISO file to my Mac for burning (my PC doesn't have a CDR drive).

Any reasons why the above can't or shouldn't work? Am I missing any steps? I know I could just try it and see, but I thought I'd get opinions before I blew away my existing partitions.

Many thanks!
