The best place to start is probably the < DSL wiki >

If you want a myDSL extension to load each time you start your PC, copy it into a directory named /mydsl and it will load automatically at boot.

If you cannot hear any sound from your machine, use the command "lsmod" in a terminal window to see if the correct driver for your sound card has been loaded.

Some sound card drivers require you to pass parameters such as the irq and dma channels when the driver is loaded.

You could Google on the name of your sound driver to see what comes up or you could try "modinfo driver_name" from a terminal window to see if any parameters are required.

What sound card/sound driver are you using?

where do i have to put that mydsl directory? is it in the home directory of hda1 or in another directory?because i have partition my harddisk in 3 part (1 swap partition and 2 hda)please give me idea where to put it

As an example, you could use the first partition as swap (eg hda1), the second partition for the frugal install (eg hda2) and the third partition for data (eg hda3).

In this example, create the following directories:

/mnt/hda3/mydsl [for extensions to load at boot]
/mnt/hda3/mydsl/optional [for extensions to appear on the right-click menu]

You might need to use the boot code mydsl=hda3 but I think DSL will find the mydsl directory automatically.

I thought the auto mydsl folder needed to be in the boot directory (/hda2/),  or /cdrom/

No. As with the backup archive, DSL searches the root of each storage device listed in fstab. Using the "mydsl=<device>" or "base" boot option will disable the auto search.
