When I pass the options noapic nosmp to DSL on bootup, it complains about not being able to reset eth0 in 10 ms and goes into some sort of eternal loop. When I don't, it complains about something called scsi0 and /dev/cloop. Wouldn't it be possible to run DSL entierly out of RAM? It's small enough.

DSL can run out of ram, with the toram option, but I'm not sure that would solve your problems.

I have 256MB of RAM- isn't that enough? It's enough to run Knoppix without problems.

Yes, what makes you think it wouldn't be?

So if I have enough RAM, how do I fix all the problems?

I've no idea, but I can tell this just in case you don't know:

ETH0 is your network card.
SCSI0 will be a scsi drive or an IDE drive under SCSI emulation.

Maybe if you post up more details, such as which motherboard and chipset your using and what happens if you enter no parameters then maybe someone with similar hardware will help you out.

Just out of interest what made you think you didn't have enough RAM?

I have a x86-compatible AMD Athlon with a Via Rhine II card with 10/100 Ethernet. When I enter no options, it complains about something called cloop (when I don't enter noapic nosmp).
