Sorry, I've looked all over the forums and had a fiddle and I can't work out how to fix this. Perhaps I'm just missing the right search term.

The screen size is too big - the edges of the screen are cut off. How do I change it?

You can use xsetup.sh to choose X resolutions At the first boot prompt try:

boot: dsl xsetup

If you are talking about the non-X text screen, then perhaps a vga boot code is needed, see F2 & F3 at the first boot code. Try:

boot: dsl vga=normal

or

boot: fb800x600

or one of the vga codes listed on the F3 help screen.

Sorry, I'm quite new to DSL - have been using Ubuntu for a while, but I'm still very new to linux and don't have an IT background...

do I try those in the terminal? When I did, it said that no such command was found. Is there a different place I'm meant to try them? How?

Thanks for taking the time to help me with this, I know it must be a bit frustrating.

Those commands are when first booting from the live DSL CD at the initial boot prompt.
You should probably try the live CD first to see what parameters your hardware might need.

If you have already installed DSL to your hard drive, then you should have been prompted with screen resolution upon first boot. To change it now depends on how you did the install, grub or lilo.

At this point we don't know if you are using a laptop 800x600 or a desktop, and which type of install.

The answer you seek depends on you providing more information.
DSL can be booted/installed many ways and with several boot loaders.

Try the live CD or post more information.
