Whenever I start DSL, or a remaster, with the cheatcode VGA=791, I am unable to shutdown or reboot DSL. Also, the mounted drives are not unmounted and the backup is not written. Though, if I use VGA=normal then everything works fine, just the size of the boot text is a little larger.

I was wondering if anyone else has come across this problem or if it is specific to the hardware that I am using.

I am using a single board computer with integrated graphics and a touchscreen monitor.

Well, in order to troubleshoot this problem it could be good information for you to describe what form this unable to shutdown takes, is the system frozen or is there some error message?

Since you didn't mention it, I assume that all the rest of DSL works correctly when you use the cheatcode and I also assume when you see the problem that is the only cheatcode you use that is different and further, that it is a released version of DSL not an RC since your question is in this forum location. I can't assume anything about how much RAM you have in the machine.

If you open a terminal and enter sudo shutdown -h now, does that give any error message or does it shutdown properly? During a shutdown from a menu choice Robert's exitcheck.sh script is called and is what handles the backup (among other things).

Is there any chance this is related to the thing you were trying to accomplish a while back with a special screen saver that you wanted to install. Maybe something that is related to X?

..or an Ati card. If using the vesa framebuffer gives you problems, just don't use it :P

That is what I am currently doing which works perfectly well, I just thought it to be odd that changing the VGA properties would affect the way the shutdown procedure is handled.

No, I noticed that this happened earlier before I installed the xtrlock, I just never got around to asking about it and kept the cheatcode as VGA=normal.

As far as RAM goes, I am currently using 512k which is more than enough for DSL. I am using a remaster of DSL 3.3 though I still had the problem with DSL 3.3
I did a few more tests, the backup is working, its just not showing any output text as it does when I use VGA=normal. I'm still not sure about the unmounting of filesystems, since I am not getting any messages and I am using a frugal install.
I also noticed that it seems to be working now  ???  I'm not sure why though, I haven't changed anything, but I do remember that the screen sat there with the line "preparing to reboot" for about 10 minutes before I did a hard reset, and would do the same thing when I wanted to power off except it said "DSL halted"

well if there is no problem now then I guess this has become a moot topic.

Thank you for your replys.  :)
