Greetings all,

I tried out DSL tonight and I think its pretty cool. I have been in and out of many distro's playing around and seeing what the big deal is all about. I found Knoppix to be pretty nice, but I like the idea of DSL.

When I mounted a partition that I have pix, mp3s, and other data on, it mounted okay. I did:

mount /dev/hda8 /mnt/hda8 and it seemed pretty happy, but when I am in an application, like MMX, when I try to open an mp3, I go over to /mnt/hda8 and all the directories end up in the file column, so that when I try and click on the MP3 directory, it thinks its a file and close down the file/open dialog, since of course, its a directory.

I can go to a terminal and move all through the directories, see the files and it all looks normal, but all the applications seem to think that the directories are files, so I cannot do anything with them.

Hopefully, the explanation is clear enough. Does it make sense to anyone?

Is it related to permissions? I have no idea how to become the root and stay that way, even in GUI apps. I can su, and sudo su, but does that change stay with me when I do GUI stuff? Not sure how to find that one out.

Much obliged for any assistance. Never seen this before so I am done DSL'in till I figure it out :-)

Thanks,

Mark
