Unable to get rid of the single line at boot "ext2fs warning maximal count reach etc..."
Ran e2fsck also with -p and -f.
Running e2fsck with no options reads "clean".
This line started appearing about a week or two ago.

Dsl 3.3 toram frugal lilo.

Thanks.

What's the maximal count? Maybe it could be set to a very low number.. (see hdparm)
Just a random guess...

hdparm /dev/hda3 reads multcount=16.
Is that it?.

oops my bad, I meant tune2fs ... don't know why I put that ... (it's monday)
Try sudo tune2fs -l /dev/hda3

Thanks 'thehatsrule'.
tune2fs results (partial):
filesystem: clean
mount count: 17
maximum mount count: 35
check interval" 6mnths.

My question was how to remove the one "Ext2 warning maximal count..." line that appears on boot screen even though e2fsck states "clean".

Right, so I guess you could try changing the values/disabling it... though the message should be pretty harmless.

What I would like is a script that could check for the warning and if found would run the e2fsck script automaticly.  I have seen ubuntu do this.

...but what happens if the e2fsck warning is coming from your boot partition? On a usb boot I've been using a different usb boot device to e2fsck the first one and vice versa. On a frugal hd boot, I'm a little stuck because the only choice I have is via a "fromusb" floppy boot which takes ages...

To check the boot partition just use the toram option.
The best senario is to use this combination to boot and check filesystem(s)

boot:  dsl 2 toram legacy base norestore checkfs

Thanks Roberts,
"boot dsl 2 toram legacy base norestore checkfs" did it.
Apparently message was referring to hda2 (dsl image).
I've been running e2fsck on hda3 which is my persistent partition.
Warning line is now gone from boot screen.

Didn't know it was the boot partition. What happens if you don't have enough memory for toram?

You only need the toram when trying to check the filesystem you booted from. So...

You could boot from cdrom without the toram boot code
or a combination of bootfloppy and cdrom/pendrive etc.
