The easiest way is to install knoppix instead of DSL.

DSL + KDE  = Knoppix

as far as the bloatware level goes.

I am sure that it is possible to install KDE on DSL, but I cannot think of a good reason why.

If your computer can run KDE smoothly, then Knoppix is the right tool for the job.

The question was how to install KDE on DSL, not whether there is a reason to do so or not.
I see that there is still no answer, and I myself can not give an answer, sorry.

I feel to include an additional post:

Personally, why I like Knoppix, there are about 60% of applications I simply dont use (have no use for).

In DSL the ratio is a lot smaller, but some applications i also do not use.

In the end, the way to go is to make small mods which fit your needs.

For my old hardware for example I only use DSL.
For newer hardware i am still switching like a maniac (with Gobolinux being my favorite right now)

In comparison to Knoppix for example, I _do_ like it very much that the applications in DSL really really dont take any (ok... a bit but not much) space.

I also would like to know how to install XFree86 or X.org
since most of Gamez require optimized driver which only work with those Xservers.

Okay, if you're going to install KDE, games, and all of the other things you guys are looking for, you're going to need a working apt.  I wrote a HOWTO, cbagger has a svelte Synaptic install thread, there is information in the forums unless you're too lazy to look for it.

You _must_get_apt_working_first_!

After you get apt working:
apt-get install x-window-system will install a fullblown Xserver.  DSL does not come with nor support the full XFree86 or XOrg xservers, so when you do this, you're on your own.

apt-get install kde will install kde and all of it's associated dependancies.  Before you install kde, you should seriously consider < all of the libs and packages that kde requires to install. >  Once you decide to install kde, or gnome for that matter, your small, svelte DSL installation is a thing of the past and you are no longer running a DSL distro.

Unless John or Robert say otherwise, if you choose to implement a window manager or DE that doesn't come with DSL, you're on your own.  This is why everyone says that DSL may not be right for you.  The dev team is so busy keeping up with the default DSL that they may not have time to support every possible user configuration.

You'd have much better support from a distro that provides these apps by default.

Is it possible to get the full Xserver on DSL (w/ accelerated X in 2D), but not KDE, and then create a remaster?  Or do I have to go the route of trying to create a .dsl?  I have posted in another thread about needing a full X svr so I can remote into a server's xsession by default.

I could strip Knoppix down, but like the other poster I thought it would be easier to build up from something small.
