8MB of RAM is too small for practical use in graphical X Windows mode.

You might be able to run DSL in text console mode (kinda like "MSDOS Mode" in Windows 9x).

Your best options are:

Get more RAM.

or

Try Basic Linux.  It is not a livecd and it is harder to set up but it is a better choice for low memory computer systems.

Good Luck.

I have DSL 7.0 installed on a laptop with 8 meg ram 75mhz (90Mhz if turbo (ooooh)) 504meg hd and its deathly slow, in text mode it runs very quickly..im sure if you wanted to use it as a firewall applicance see < SmoothWall > then it might make that puppy scream (only prob is smoothwall doesnt have pcmcia support yet(but we are working on it))

RAM is the key with Linux....more ram you have the faster/more responsive your system will become....
