Need to know the correct way to upgrade from DSL3.4.6/frugal/lilo to DSL4.1rc2/fruga/lilo.

Am hesitant since this is a major upgrade.

Did not have any problem on my backup 'puter as it was run as a LiveCD with persistent partition and I only had the sound config to add to bootlocal.sh.

Thank you.

EDIT:
Read somewhere in the forum the following:
boot dsl legacy base norestore.
insert dsl4 cd & mount.
copy linux24 minirt24.gz and KNOPPIX/KNOPPIX to hda2(where image is) and boot.

Is the correct?.

Easiest to run the install script from the 4.1rc2 cdrom.
You will see the following prompt:
For INSTALL answer y to format, for UPGRADE answer n.

Just be sure to answer n to  Format the target partition?

You also need to read the change log if you are going to try to use an existing backup from v3.
Many files likely in an existing backup are either changed or deprecated.

FYI, the manual instructions are not correct. You will get into trouble if trying to change an image that you are running from.
To do it manually, boot from the v4.1RC2 cdrom and then mount /mnt/hda2 and copy from cdrom to /mnt/hda2
