Strange USB flash reader problemForum: Other Help Topics Topic: Strange USB flash reader problem started by: michalop Posted by michalop on Aug. 20 2004,13:45
I am using DSL 0.73 on an oldish Celeron Dell computer at work, in order to transfer some large files onto flashcards. The computer normally uses Windows 95 which do not support my USB Viking 6-in-1 flashreader, so I boot into DSL just for the transfer. Booting works ok, my reader is recognised with the help of a small script, abd so does the HD. The flashcards get mounted normally and df reports their normal sizes.Copying _small_ files from the (vfat) HD onto the cards works ok. However whenever I try to copy a 32 MB file, after some period of activity the computer hangs bigtime - it needs a hardware reset to recover. This happens every single time I try it which is strange, since the same equipment and cards work well on my Vectorlinux system at home. Any ideas??? yeah thats the prob then its only a 430hz processor so will take a while to copy large files but shouldn,t crash try just leaving it it should work, I copy iso's of 50 mb on my e1 dell celeron with a 331 hz processor so should work, it will look like its crashed while it does it as its a high workload for an old turtle.....

Ok, I'll try that! I guess I'll have to forget transfering 700mb ISOs that way then... :(
