Hey,

I have a few questions about remastering DSL.

1) When I remaster it is there a way I can change the background image of the cdrom boot where it says DSL Linux etc ?

2) Is there a way to change the words etc when it boots up. e.g  Testing for cd drive ........... OK ?

3) Once I have remastered DSL can I then rename it to what ever and sell it with manuals like Red Hat , Mandrake or DSL itself ?

4) I know that it is based on the GUL Licence but do I have to give any information that it was remastered from DSL ?

Cheers,

1. yes the splash image is on the cd in boot.img called logo.16. find boot.img and rawrite this to a diskette. One the diskette look for logo.16

Google for logo.16 and how to create one.

2. On the diskette look for boot.msg

3. Not sure.

4. GNU license? If DSL gives thanks to Knoppix then you to DSL.

Here is the result of my remastering of DSL 0.6.2:

---
I have two versions I use, one that goes right to 800x600, and one that
goes to 1024x768, without asking the X-server, screen, resolution and mouse
questions. I also have the basic one that asks those questions, but one can
always exit the window manager, and run xsetup.sh to do all that, then return
via "startx".
---
I created my Logo.16 using a Window 3.1 box, Paint, then using Lview Pro.
once the bmp saved to a disk, I then use Redhat 9 to continue processing to wind up with the logo.16. The actual remaster .iso is generated in DSL, however, not Redhat. Several hard disks and partitions are used to handle all the work.
---
I'm not distributing my remaster at this time, but eventually may do that.
The focus of DSL today is the adding of applications via the extension, and then burning your own with your extensions included in the root directory of the CD, I believe. This is much easier than doing it like I do with Rapidweather Remaster, but you don't get a new logo16, etc. with that CD.

Almost beyond the scope of this forum to get into the technical details of
how that is done, and I for one tend to view these details as "trade secrets",
and it would not be fair to the DSL developers to present them here in
a how-to detail. Took me quite a while to figure it all out, and once I did, I
have held the nuts and bolts of that "off the forum."

I chose DSL 0.6.2 as a base for my remaster, as it has support for multiple
processors, which I like. Another very nice remaster is Luit Linux, but recently
they have decided to trim their distro to nearly the same size as DSL, and it is
well worth the time to download and try out.

Just a note....
I've been using DSL on 3 different dual cpu boxes since 0.7.1....
Issues regarding multiprocessors prior to 0.7.0 have been resolved...

Have you recently tried a remaster with the 0.7.x series?
