How do i remove desktop icons?

Inside your /home/dsl/.xtdesktop folder are the graphic icon files and their associated instruction files ( .lnk ) Remove the ones you wish, removing BOTH files from the folder. ( both the .lnk AND the .png/.gif/.xpm/.jpg for the icon ) Your desktop will wig out, and you can lose ALL icons from the desktop if you do not remove BOTH ... The .lnk file will have the name of the icon in it. Sometimes they do not match in name.. Exit the windowmanager, and startx to restart. Your chosen icons should be absent from the desktop. Are you wanting to remove some of the stock icons, or are you having a problem with leftovers? ( leftovers = icons from extensions that are no longer loaded, therefore they do nothing until you reload the extension ) 73 ke4nt Posted by mikshaw on Oct. 20 2004,16:06
If you want to remove icons entirely, look again at /home/dsl/.xinitrcYou should see the command "enhance". This is a script which loads xtdesktop, dockapps, and pager. You could remove the enhance line from .xinitrc, which would also remove other enhancements (easy enough to add them back manually). Alternatively, you can edit the enhance script and remove "xtdesk" from the script. Posted by ke4nt1 on Oct. 20 2004,20:45
mikshaw is correct..for removing all the icons from your desktop permanently. ...remove the enhance line... You can also use the menu for a temporary removal of all icons. ...select this ... Desktop > no icons Thanks mikshaw, as I may have had tunnel vision on my first post. 73 ke4nt Posted by mikshaw on Oct. 20 2004,23:12
Not really tunnel vision. I couldn't decide myself whether exerd wanted to remove individual icons or remove them entirely, so I just wanted to explain the second since you already explained the first.
