Ok so I have a really old copy of dsl installed on my computer and I was wondering if I could upgrade to the newest verion using my old version. Or would I have to burn a new copy?

As far as I know there is no upgrading of DSL....it's a situation where the new version is entirely replacing the old, and all configurations, applications and data files you currently have will need to be backed up before and reinstalled after installing a fresh DSL.  i think...

I was sitting here thinking about this whole upgrading scenario.   Mind you I am NOT a coder, but it seems to me, that since we know that the HOME directory should be backed up as well as the ppp stuff, maybe firewall , a few other directories, then I would think it would be possible to write an install script that should back these files up into maybe the swap space, then copy the files that need to be replaced back into the directory where they belong.

Further in order to make sure the installed packages were recreated, it might be possible to read dpkg database and reinstall the appropriate packages.. the only thing that would bite about that would be the individual configuations/custom templates etc..

Could something along these lines work ?
