If not, do you know of a live cd distro that can?

Thanks!

Probably yes....if you took the time to manually install and tweak.

See this post... < Captive NTFS Thread >

Knoppix supposedly currently has support for NTFS read/write.  Haven't tried it personally though.

I've tried it with knoppix 3.4 and Captive NTFS.

It works, but it is SLOW... I can copy files to a network share much faster than I can copy a file into an NTFS partition useing knoppix 3.4 Captive NTFS

Another slight concern (on many posts) was that it doesn't write in real time.  It buffers all of the writes and then physically writes them when you unmount the drive.  It all sounds a little dodgy to me.

It would be nice if this was working reliably though.  My entire notebook drive is imaged with an NTFS partition, so everything I do with DSL that I want to save has to go to USB.  I bought one of those USB notebook harddrive cases and stuck an 80GB drive in it just for this reason.  (Plus I don't know what kind of background software they have auditing so I'd rather keep my personal stuff personal)

It's supposedly a lot better in the current version of Knoppix, but can still be a little dodgy.

Great for rescuing dead M$ installs though.
