OK, half-baked idea, got my old 450mhz K6-2+ lying around doing nothing, and a usually-spare network port in our garage/study/etc.  I've been trying to get some stuff down via P2P (shareaza at the moment, any dsl P2P recommended that can access most networks?), but have to shut down my machine in my bedroom (main one) when the gf goes to sleep.  So, was thinking maybe setup this spare machine downstairs where the noise won't bother anyone, and have it downloading through the night.

BUT there's four of us in the house, so if we want to do anything decent online (ie. play UT2004  :D ) I close down the P2P stuff.  SO, the Q is, is there a simple way that any of us can open up some sort of telnet or something to the downstairs machine to stop, and later restart, P2P client downloads under DSL?

The upstairs machines mainly run windoze.
