I have an MMX200 with only 32M of RAM and an 80G HDD. I plan to use it for double duty as FTP/Web server and an extra web browsing(graphical) machine in the home. Considering the size of the hdd the install footprint is entirely a non issue. I settled on DSL because its minimalism extends to its memory footprint which is my only concern on this machine. What is the best way to set up DSL for best performance on this machine? Seeing that I don't really need live cd functionality, is DSL the best distro for this application on this hardware? Any other recommendations for running X well on 32M ram?From my experience so far a hdinstall is much faster than running -fromhd/frugal which is much faster than plain running from CD. |
