I've a poorman install and I'm booting via the floppy. Is there any difference with booting with the cd? Posted by mikshaw on Mar. 29 2005,02:08
As far as i know the only difference is you have to carry an extra disk with you.The system itself is the same. EDIT: since you mention poorman, there is a difference...if you're talking about running DSL from the CD. The disk needs to be accessed each time you start a new application, and since CDs are slower than harddrives it takes a little longer to start apps. Plus you need to run toram if you want to use the cdrom drive. Posted by cbagger01 on Mar. 29 2005,03:22
Also, the boot floppy contains less initial kernel driver support than the livecd boot image. It is not possible to fit all of the kernel driver modules that appear in the livecd minirt and squeeze them into a single floppy disk. |
