hi, i'm a linux newbie. i would like to know in what manner the files in dsl should be arranged on the cd-r to be read and run by the computer. i have windows xp pro right now,

Do you mean that right now you have the DSL iso file on you computer and you want to know how to put it on the CD?  Or you want to know how to add the extension files on the DSL CD that you have (assuming that you can boot from that DSL CD on your computer)?

If you download the .iso file from the download page (link located on the DSL home page), you simply burn the file as a CD .iso image to your CD-R. You will need to look at the following link to understand how easy this is:

Once you've read that, you can then read the many other good documents in the documentation area as well as search the forums.
