I have DSL 1.1 installed on my HD and it will reboot but it won't shutdown(turn off the computer).  It shuts  functions down but the desktop stays up.  Other versions of DSL I've used didn't have this issue.  I have have tried to catch it on the end of reboot and  shut it down but it always comes back up uncleanly shutdown.  How can I fix this?  Thanks.

I don't have dsl 1.1 yet but there are a few ways of shutting down:
-hit ctrl+alt+del to get yourself out of X. The del must be the key beside the page down key, and the ctrl and alt keys must be the ones on the left side of the keyboard. Then at the command line, type "sudo shutdown -h now"
-You could hit ctrl+alt+del again the same way above
-Get to the command line without X like before, and simply type "poweroff" or "sudo poweroff". This I haven't tried in DSL but it works in red hat linux and I also saw it on the list of commands in DSL (hit tab twice at the command line for the list if you are curious)

Thanks for the reply.  I'll give it a try.
