Ok, i recently started using DSl!

I installed gaim, but when i open it up it uses a bunch of cpu, and plus it crashes, alot.

Does anyone know how to fix it?
Oh, and i can't get firefox to open up, when i click it it uses tons of cpu too.

Thanks,
Travis

What are the specs of the box you are using?

Sounds like you are running out of ramspace.

Box specs would be helpful..

Are you installing and running the gtk2-0705.dsl ?
Both gaim, and the firefox-1.0.4 require it to be installed first.
See the .info files for the details.

The gtk2.dsl unpacked is MUCH bigger than what is left of
your 32MB of ram after DSL is booted, and up-n-running..

..It is most certainly the cause for your errors..

Do you have a swap setup?  That *might* help..  A Large one..

Otherwise,
trying to run 10-20MB apps inside a linux OS,
on a 32MB box is not practical..

Even if swap helps, expect normal operations to
stall to "ludicrisly slow speeds" ..

Is there a particular reason that you want to run these
fatter apps, in place of some leaner options?

In short..  you need more ram !!

My 300MHz laptops with 192MB ram runs the newer apps
with some pep, once loaded and running.. so it can be done..

Yes, you need a swapfile or swap partition to be created on your hard drive.

You also might benefit from doing a full hard drive install of DSL.
