Good Morning,

I am really enjoying DSL. My pc is a very old one but seems to have new life with DSL. This pc is unattended during the day and even though I have ups backup, sometimes a power failure may be long enough to require a re-boot. With that in mind, Here are some things that I need help on.

1. How do I know what install I might have used when installing DSL??

2. How do I make my network connection restart after a reboot? I am not using dhcp.

3. How do I make certain applications startup after a reboot? I would like my webserver, my ssh connection, all to restart at reboot.

It appears that when DSL restarts it stops at the login. Is there a way for it to continue automatically.

Your help would be greatly appreciated.

1. I don't know, but...

2. DSL should automatically find the network every time it boots. If you want to start samba on boot up (for frugal installs), then you need to put the samba.dsl file in your "/" directory (the directory with "/KNOPPIX"). (unless you previously specified another partition).

2. Well, DSL does not automattically find the network. I did say that I wasn't using DHCP. I have to select the netconfig, then once I have network access, I then start sshd, then the webserver. I don't have a new for samba. I have a separate pc that is my file server.

1. If you mean what DSL version, it's listed at the top of the Dillo page that starts when you enter the X session (and when you start dillo from the menu). I can't say if it is kept current with each release.

2 & 3. What type of install are you using? Full harddrive install? Frugal? Other?

you can add most of this to /opt/bootlocal.sh to start it automatically.

monkey is

/opt/monkey/bin/banana start

ssh is

/etc/init.d/ssh start

for your network, you can use ifconfig.

If I rememeber correctly...

ifconfig eth0
ifconfig <ip address> netmask <netmask>
ifconfig broadcast <ip subnet>
if config on
