I have a requirement which DSL will solve very nicely, but I must use a non-SMP kernel.

I have tried, so far without success to rebuild the kernel and boot stuff myself.

I am building on an FC1 workstation in VMWare.
I have pulled 2.4.26 from kernels.org, I have applied the knoppix patches from kernelsource.dsl, I have used the .config from the same package, doing a make oldconfig, make bzImage then modules.

I have been able to boot the FC1 machine using this kernel.

I pulled cloop-2.05 and followed a set of knoppix guidelines for building cloop.o on a non-debian system.

I remastered the DSL 1.3 release copying in the new modules, putting bzImage into /boot/isolinux/linux24.
I uncompressed, mounted minird24 and replaced cloop.o and scsi/* then recompressed minird24.gz and made an iso image.

The resulting build loads the kernel but the kernel panics. It complains that it can't mount root.

Is there a HOW-TO that I can follow ?
Have I missed a step ?
Can anyone provide me with a DSL image with a non-SMP kernel ?

I would really appreciate some help.

I have got a bit further, I now get as far as the DSL welcome screen, then the keyboard lights start flashing and the machine hangs.
