I've added a file (My_Nephew,) to;
/home/dsl/.fluxbox/styles
I've mkdir, backgrounds, in, .fluxbox, and I've added a file (my_nephew.jpg,) to, backgrounds.
& I've edited icons & got xvkbd in /opt.

I've searched keyword mkmydsl & read every posting in forums & documentation.

I'm afraid I'm just not grasping mkmydsl.

Please could somebody pointer me as to how to 'back this up' into mkmydsl.

I think the part that you are missing is the concept of myconf.tar.gz. Those items that you have mentioned should be in a separate file that is the same format as the backup.tar.gz and placed in the root directory for autoloading. Practice on a liveCD first to get hang of it. Then mkmydsl will make  it among other .dsl and tar.gz into a custom mydsl.iso

roberts, Thank You for clarifying that, most appreciated.
I've accomplished backup.tar.gz
I've grabbed 'Creating a *.tar.gz Extension from Source,' off documentation, next thing I shall learn to do in Linux.
Thanks again, Best Wishes andyp.

Chris, has made another great howto this time covering the mkmydsl program.
Check it out at < http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub....pdfdocs >

Thanks roberts.
P.s. I wanted mycustom to boot to xsetup.sh, so I edited xserverrc (put a # at the beginning,) which didn't produce the desired effect, so I deleted xserverrc, which did.
So now when I send a mycustom bizcard to my brother-in-law, he'll go into xsetup.sh, with his hardware.

P.p.s. I think I only quite realized yesterday, that it seems that you guys primarily create DSL for live use, and perhaps pendrive use, in preference to hd use.

Myself, I mostly use hd, and pendrive.
I'm sure you are aware of the following, but I thought I'd take the opportunity to mention;

Obviously live cd is No.1, like my brother-in-law will receive a tiny envelope in the mail, boot the 50mb bizcard, and see his baby son as the desktop background, which will slightly blow his mind. This will be the 1st time he sees Linux. No doubt he will slip the card into his wallet and play with it at work.

I use laptop Toshiba Satellite 2800-200 PIII-m 700mhz 192mb.
The dvd drawer is top right, & the cpu is right next to it.
So running live, too much heat for my liking. Pity the cpu is not on opposite side to dvd.

I'm sure I'm not telling you anything that you don't already know. I think my brother-in-law good example of No.1 dynamism of live cd, and yet, the emergence of inexpensive pendrive is perhaps significant or something.

best wishes andyp.

Andy,

Thanks, I am sure your brother-in-law will be very surprised. Lets keep spreading DSL to family, friends, and neighbors.

If running a liveCD is too much heat you should be using the "toram" boot option or try my new frugal_grub install it is multiple OS friendly.

The charter of DSL started as a liveCD. To me, it is much more interesting to push the envelope with liveCD and OCI (Other Compressed Installs). We now have frugal(lilo), frugal_grub, and the pendrive installs. That is why I write the code to do these sorts of things. Actually, after liveCD, was the CF which gave "birth" to frugal.  If you have not read my blog entry you should, "Not Your Father's Operating System". Everyone has hard drive installs. That is how "your father did it! I would get very bored if that is all we have!

DSL also has alot of custom code to get it its own identity. Anyone can collect files and put together a distro. Having custom code to give it a crafted feel makes DSL an interesting project. This is the area that I have the most fun doing.

Wait until you see my improvements comming in 1.3. Much more polish!

And thanks to Chris and his howtos users are finally seeing the abilities of that code and the unique capabilites of DSL. Even thought some of it I wrote quite awhile ago.

I have really enjoyed the frugal install since I first started using it about a month ago. As you stated hd installs and live cd were most always the options that were presented to us but it is very exciting what you are doing with dsl. I consider it a pretty revolutionary concept and look forward to all of the future improvements.
