ello, i'm new to linux, and dsl, and have used it for a few days now.
Not to sound to noob'ish, but is there ne way of remastering without a partitioned hard-drive?
Can you do it on a usb-drive?
It's just i'm not quite ready to commit to linux, and wipe all 120GB of data (& windows), by partitioning my hdd.

And after reading all the slightly different howto's on remastering, i'm kinda confused about which point/where/and which file's i should edit to:
~Keep programs (install on os, without using restore or mydsl=sda1 kinda thing)
~Keep settings (e.g. firefox, mms, apache, etc)
~Default style/theme

Will ne1 be able to help me?

p.s. sorry about lack of technical language, vocab(ne1), etc...
i'm writing this in after a 10 hr shift, and can not be arsed to write in more detail...

I think the earlier portions of meo's remastering thread contains instructions for remastering in RAM.  I know it works.  You need at least 256 MB total RAM for this to work without a hitch.

If your HD has a FAT32 partition, you can create an ext2 image file on it that can be mounted as a "temporary" partition for remastering.  But from your post, I am assuming your 120 GB HD is NTFS so you may not be able to do this.

Hi i somehow managed to create an iso file using my usb stick (sda1) rather than hda1. The iso file was there one moment, gone the next, because...
after a reboot neither linux or windows would pick the usb stick up, meaning i could not access my first ever remaster...
But now, i cant for the life of me get it to remaster again.
Using the same howto, but usb stick keeps ing up, with all the formats and mke2fs its had...

Could anybody get a HowTo Remaster for the current version of dsl (1.2.1 i think?)

OR
Somebody be very nice, and get my backup.tar thingy made by dsl, and restore then remaster. They could email my the new iso.
lol, long shot, but worth asking neways  :D  ???
