1)
Ok so i have dsl running from my hd.
ONLY if its connected to my IDE on the motheboard.
it will NOT install if i have it connected to my Promise TX2 U133 Card.
When dsl boots it sees the card and see's the model and size of the hard drive but why wont dsl install on that hard drive while its connected to the controller card. ?

it WILL work if its connected to the Pri channel on the mobo.
this is frustrating as i dont use the onboard ide for hard drives.

2)
I use suse64 9.2
It too is installed on that same hard drive on that same promise card.

what do i need to do to make Suse dual boot with DSL ?
i have tried Lilo and grub and neither will work properly.
Suse - i have added the line to both the lilo loader and the grub loader so that it see's DSL,,, DSL starts up and goes thru part of the start up and then says it cant find certain files.
what is the EXACT lilo or GRUB lines i need to add to SUSE to make it see and run DSL. ?
I have tried the tutorials from here and they do not work.

Suse lists all Bootable OS's as booting from the partition of Suse.
hda2 is where suse is
dsl is on hda1
i tell suse to run dsl from hda1 and the kernel and such point to the proper places acording to the dsl tutorial. but it loads so far and then fails.

can someon please help me i enjoy dsl so much and its helping me learn alot about linux since its such a command driven OS. versus SUSE which pretty much does all that for you.

3)
Suse will not mount the DSL partition.
It says that its a corrupt file system. even though i told DSL to install as Ext3. SUSE boots, see's the partition and then says its a corrupt format. and i tell it to ignore it so i dont mess up my DSL install.
Why does Suse do this ?
It will also do this if i tell it to install DSL as ext2. Suse still says the file system is corrupt and not a real Ext3 or 2 format.
why ?

4)
and maybe most importantly.
do i need to install DSL first and then Suse or suse then DSL
and do i tell Suse to load the boot loader on the MBR of the hard drive or on the partition table of the booting partition ?
you typically have 3 choices. 1- MBR of the suse HD, 2- Boot record of the partiton of suse. 3 - boot partition or MBR of another device like a floppy or hard drive.

5)
Any chance in hell of getting DSL to see read and access my NVidia SATA RAID! ?
Please someone tell me they have a way to make this work! PLEASE!
If i havent explained something fully or made it confusing please ask me what im talking about.

these are some of the last things i need to know for making dsl work for me.
aside from maybe installing KDE in dsl or making my ATI card have hardware graphics. (which i still cant get working with suse either ggrrrr)

Usually, the drives that are attached to an add-on IDE controller board will be recognized as

/dev/hde

and

/dev/hdf

It is possible that your bootloader will fail because it does not know where your files are located.

You need a custom remaster of DSL to get SATA support.

Check this post for more details:

welll SATA isnt the issue it see's both my raptors because the Nvidia SATA is a legacy device for most os's. thats the only good thing about the nvidia sata,  it can be seen as a legacy ide device. other than that its slower than other sata controllers ive used.

the question would be sata raid.

and yes when the hard drive i was talking about in my first post is conencted to the ide controller it's hde i believe.
booting DSL sees the drive and how many gig's it is, 40gig. but when i try to load dsl on it, it wont work.

ill try again just for the sake of arguement.

my main need right now is to get DSL to dual boot with Suse. lilo nor grub will work. i add the proper lines intot he lilo cfg or the grub loader and neither will load dsl properly.
it either cant see dsl or it loads so far then errors out.

im very curious to know why suse thinks the dsl partition is corrupt.
ive also on several occasions seen the message "mounting Ext2 partition as Ext3"
is dsl simply mounting the partition as Ext3 and formatting it as ext2 ?
