ok i have soem issues, i need help, im trying to download things with DSL after i downlaod something i dotn know where it goes or anything...and i cant figure out how to delete things! i think that i can delete things in Emelfm but i dotn want to in fear that i might mess somethnig up. if you can help me at all please e-mail me at either baliantgamer@gmail.com or nofx_cky_him@hotmail.com

I'm a newbie too, so please disregard this post if you hear from someone more technically experienced.

Emlfm works just like any other file manager, but you might be more comfortable using the roxx myDSL extension for awhile.

I'm not sure if you're talking about downloading files, Mp3s etc. from Firefox while running DSL or downloading myDSL extensions, so I'll just tell you what I do for both situations that works for me.

I'm ashamed to admit that I grab all of my .dsl's while I'm running Windows. I have dial-up and even if I didn't, I don't want to waste John's bandwidth by repeatedly downloading the same application. I have/had a peer-to-peer ICS and filesharing windows network, so I kept my .dsls in a folder in Shared Docs on the PC that connected to the internet.

The dsl PCs had samba.dsl on their hard drives, which enabled me to access the shared folder and then load 'em up with whatever I wanted for that session.

Now, if I'm way off base and you just want to save things while you're running DSL, you right-click on what you want to save in Firefox, choose "Save link as" from the pop-up menu, and the dialogue box should give you a choice of which directory the file goes in. Don't save to your home directory or it will evaporate when you reboot.

HOWEVER if your hard drive uses NTFS, i.e., if you are running Win XP, NT, or 2000, Linux cannot write to the drive, only read it.

My work-around is that although I cannot save files to the NTFS drive of the DSL machine, I CAN save files to the NTFS drives of the networked PCs; go figure; I don't have a clue why this works, but it does.
