I'll admit, I'm no guru.  That said....

I've got a Slackware 10.1 box setup that I wanted to be able to connect to other machines.  Because of FAT requiring root to add/delete/modify, I've decided to change my other boxes over to something else.  That something else happened to be DSL.  Now, trying to see the files so I can mount the DSL box in the Slackware box, when I try starting nfs-common, I get statdstatd: Cound not chdir: No such file or directory.  How can I go about doing this without too many headaches?  All-in-all, I've got 6 computers I would like to run DSL on including an Inspiron 9300 which will be here in 2-3 days.

You didn't state which version you are running.
However, I do see a problem starting with rc1 and remaining thru 1.0 with nfs.
Look like this one got by QA and the two public RC test versions.
It will be fixed in 1.0.1. Until then, if you need nfs services then I would suggest you stay with 0.9.3
