I had a question. I have an old toshiba laptop with 250Mb HDD and 8MB RAM, haven't looked at the processor speed but can find out if needed. The laptop has no CDROM drive or network card. Is there any way to install DSL on this laptop. I just needed a small yet useful OS on this so was trying DSL but even tho I followed the instructions in the FAQ section nothing would happen(blank screen after the bios screen). Is there any other linux distribution which I might be able to use? If yes how do I go about installing that? Thanks a lot for all your help. Posted by AwPhuch on Dec. 08 2004,17:59
I doubt it will make it with only 8Meg of ram...the X server (even the mega stripped one) takes approx 12Megs to run.If you could upgrade the ram in that machine to 32Megs and higher then there would be no problems My machine with 16Megs of ram rapidly dies to a crawl if I push it too hard (too much stuff open) I did a walkthru to install with floppies, you can find it < HERE > or < Updated rewrite - HERE > Hope that helps Brian AwPhuch |
