I am try to install DSL on an old system with limited 40mb ramAll goes well until I get: Xinit: no file errno 2 unable to connect to X server Xinit: no such process errno 3 server error Any ideas? Posted by ke4nt1 on Oct. 29 2004,02:35
Perhaps this system cannot startup the X server in the default 1024x768 mode. Were you able to bootup the LiveCD first before trying an install ? If you can try the " xsetup " option at the boot: prompt during startup, you will get an opportunity to use a lower resolution before starting X Once you get the system booted up and into the X desktop, use the right click menu to select a method to install your DSL to your computer. Then the parameters you used to get DSL running form LiveCD will be passed on to your frugal/HDInstall.. 73 ke4nt Posted by saint chris on Oct. 29 2004,08:31

Sounds like a serial mouse ..reconstruct the link from /dev/ttyS0 to /dev/mouse .. Search the forums using keyword 'serial' for more info .. 73 ke4nt Posted by saint chris on Oct. 29 2004,14:36
I'm new to Linux... how do you reconstruct the link?

Using the search feature of the forums is easy ..Click the search button in the upper right of this screen Next to the line "search keywords" , enter the word "serial" Next to "forums" , select "All Open Forums" Next to "search from" , select 'The Beginning' Click the 'search' button at the bottom.. I found this thread using this technique . Read my first post about how to make your serial mouse work. < http://damnsmalllinux.org/cgi-bin....=serial > The search feature will help you find answers to your challenges. Usually, others have already posted techniques to solve problems with certain hardware .. 73 ke4nt |
