I am looking for cool dock-app's (wm) that i can easily install (already compiled of course) in DSL. So far i have got:

wmclockmon (clock/alarm)
wmsmixer (sound)
wmmon (cpu load/swap/IO)
wmcdplay (eject/play cd/auto mount audio-cd)
wmbutton (programmable buttons)
wmifinfo (ip-info/gateway/subnetmask/my ip/mac-address)
wmbiff (mailbox notifier)
wmnet (in & out going LAN/internet traffic)
mount (mount anything)

running in the slit of fluxbox.

I am still looking for some dock-app that will show my cpu speed/model! A text-bases "button"-app like wmbutton. (so text in stead of a picture-button)

??

One I like is the Pinboard dock app. You can save the notes you place on the pinboard if you have this line in your Filetool.lst:
---
home/dsl/.wmpinboarddata
---
Go here to download:

I'm also working with the moon clock dock app, have not figured out how
to set it for my timezone, yet. It gives a visual picture of the moon, and also several other interesting statistics about the current moon, such as when it will rise and set, etc.
---
I wonder if you get all of the dock apps, will they "double row" on your screen, if they all don't fit in the vertical stack along the right side of the screen?
---
These things are very informative, useful and fun. I like the dialup one the
best, however.

wmacpi is in testing repository.  Shows notebook battery level and charge state.  I've been using it for over a month with no problems.

Unfortunately it only works on laptops... (i need a battery for my PC :;):  )

Patrick -

I have been playing with bbdock to launch apps. It is pretty cool. Instead of a text-based launcher, have you thought about just creating .png files with only text? You could make them as large or small as you want them. Just a thought.

The only dockapps I've been using for the last several months are
wmbiff (you already have it)
wmsm (cpu/mem/swp usage and uptime)
wmsensormon (temperature - I don't know if it works in DSL)

A cpu monitor I thought was "cool" is wmfire, though i found it distracting after a while.

I just added another to play with..
It's WmWeather +
Shows a lot more than the wmweather dockapp.

Look here for the eye-candy..

And here are a few screenies of WmWeather + in DSL

The third one, the map, is actually a crop of a live map from ww.weather.com
US current forecast was what I picked this time..

And the fourth one is a forecast for Oct 27th... 55 F! Ahhhh.. cool !

It's in the testing area of the repository..
...enjoy

<EDIT> Here is a copy of my conf file, edit as necessary

It also says cloudy, so you may miss the lunar eclipse....if you're into that sort of thing....

A thought about the weather map one...
What if, and this is a big if for such a small screen, one would place the url of
my weather maps page, that would then provide any map in the place of the one given. One big problem, the page would display without the ability to scroll down, so a lot of the maps would not be available.

I may get this app and do some testing. Perhaps I could make a special page for it, that gives a few maps, but that might be only two or three. I see that one needs to know your "station ID", mine is KJAN. Also, the location, that is obtainable on wunderground.com for your chosen "station ID". I also note that the current weather map is the smallest one, but as I click on the web address for it, I find that it is bigger than the app screen. Wonder what would happen if the larger map were used?

Anyway, we are all having a lot of fun with these dock apps, and I only wish I could figure out how to "double row" them. If I open too many, then the go up and out the top of the screen.

It is possible to have several /home/dsl/.wmweather+/weather.cfg files, and
use this line in your fluxbox menu:
---
[exec] (Weather Doc App) {/usr/bin/wmweather+ -c /home/dsl/.wmweather+/weather.cfg}
---
For each one, make a weather.cfg file, as shown in the above example, and
name them "weather_1.cfg", "weather_2.cfg", etc.
Make a menu line for each one, for each City or State you are going to want a wmweather doc app for.
So, instead of "Weather Doc App", use "Memphis Weather", or "Dallas Weather".
---
The trick is getting the map set up right.
The forum at < http://dockapps.org/file.php/id/112 >
has a lot of interesting posts about that, but be sure and
open an rxvt and:
wmweather+ -help
to get all the items you can use.
---
I tried to use a html url, but the app wants a map's url, so my weather
maps page is not to be used. Problem I have had with the weather map people over the years is that they don't like links to their maps per se, they want you to look at the full page, with all the advertisements. So,
Intellicast maps are hard to do, if not impossible. Experiment with some of mine on my weather maps page, and see you can get any of them to work for you in this app.

If you use a larger map, you get less map in your cropped window..
It's 56 x 56 .. so the 'smaller' map you use, the more 'map' you get in the area.

I wonder if you can point it to a radar site, like CH 13 KTRK Super Doppler Radar.?
Maybe update it every 2-3 min instead of the default 15..

And does having the dockapps run along the BOTTOM of your screen ,
rather than the side, behave any differently?
At least you get more room going across the long side !

How can i update the picture that i "grab"' from the internet in RADAR-URI? (config-file) I have added there a link to a weatherstation's webcam  that updates it's picture every 5 minutes...

?

I want to check/understand what wmweather+ is telling me...

Can anyone give me a clue

This is my config-file:
station KCLL
location 52N 5E
radar-uri < http://www.knmi.nl/webcam/images/ispy.jpg >
radar-crop 115x120+100x100
radar-cross 26x20

(52N 5E = Netherlands)

Is the uri updated? (by wmweather itself or by a serverpush?)
What do all the symbols mean in the docked wmweather+? (0524L? 0924Z? 26 84? 5 3 ? P:0.999 ? Hi 29? WC 26? Todat 14 L?

Posted by Rapidweather on Oct. 21 2004,22:25
Yes, I notice that one must have a small map to begin with. I'm also thinking about a menu line to kill wmweather+, so I don't get more than one. I can re-click on the menu item to put one up there. If you repeatedly click on the menu item for wmweather+ you get one more each time, and can have one for each screen, current, forecast, map.
---
Also, I find that going to 640x480 during testing saves eyesight. The app is
bigger, and you can actually read it.
---
I tried to get the - viewer switch to work, with dillo, rxvt, but I can't get the output to show up in dillo. Sure would be nice, then we could all read the data being displayed.

Ok, I managed to get the very same map as ke4nt1's example, which appears to be more or less centered over Dallas Texas.
---
Now, how do I move the map around.
---
While you all are working on an answer, I'm going to go experiment on
my own.

Perhaps changing the "location" setting to the coordinates of your city?
I'm just guessing, but it seems like it would work.

Posted by Rapidweather on Oct. 22 2004,11:35
I did that, and still I have to try and move the map around with the
other settings. I get real close sometimes, but if I go too far, then the
image has black borders on each side. I did fix the menu, so I have an
"on" and "off" selection for wmweather+. Helps when I get too many when
testing, and want to clear them out.
---
I have to remaster my setup again, as I had permission problems with "weather.cfg" and the /home/dsl/wmweather+ directory.
Right now, I have to manually "chown" and "chgrp" to "dsl" and "staff" to get the thing to work.
