I use opera 6.12 and now i want to login on the homepage of my bank (www.postbank.nl) I don't seem to get a sucure connection with that page (because the page tells me so after i try to log in)Is there a new java for this or something? (i have got the preferences right!, enabled: ssl 2 ssl3 tls 1, accept all cookies, enabled Javascript, enable java (but i have no path filled in!) Posted by ke4nt1 on Sep. 22 2004,15:19
Do you have the j2re1.4.2 extension loaded ?This is the java package you want to have installed before you start opera. Then you'll have a destination for your java path statement. 73 ke4nt Posted by cbagger01 on Sep. 22 2004,17:51
FYI ke4nt,I tried out the opera tar.gz extension recently and I noticed that the symlink that points to the flash plugin file/directory was missing. This symlink was included in the UCI extension and it works fine. If the user does not have flash, the symlink is ignored. Once the user installs flash from the menu it automatically starts working. Can this symlink be added into the tar.gz version of Opera? Thanks -CB Posted by ke4nt1 on Sep. 24 2004,03:57
Symlink? Please point me in the right direction.. I just installed the opera.uci, and had to go into the prefs > plugins Add/point the plugin path to /opt/.firefox_plugins Now, once I did a backup with "home/dsl/.opera". in it, I never had to do it again.. I thought you had to do this with the opera.tar.gz as well - one time... 73 ke4nt Posted by cbagger01 on Sep. 24 2004,04:19
In the original opera612.ci submission, there was a symlink to the flash plugin shared object file /opt/.firefox_plugins/libIforgetTheName.soIt was placed inside the opera plugins directory. It worked well because the symlink was ignored by opera until the user performed the flash download process. Then it would start using the flash plugin from the next time that the user launched opera. No manual prefs changes were needed. I'll see if I still have the original file kicking around here. I do remember that it was important to use the command line "ln" tool instead of the emelfm "Symlink" button. The "Symlink" button generated a pointer towards /ramdisk/opt/.firefox_plugins which is BAD for hdinstall users. However the "ln" program generated the correct symlink pointer as specified on the command line by the user, ie "/opt/.firefox_plugins/libyayayayay.so" Posted by ke4nt1 on Sep. 24 2004,05:06
Duh.......I didn't even think about the ol' .ci file.. I still have a copy here.. Tnx.. can do .. Patrick: Did that work for you? 73 ke4nt Posted by cbagger01 on Sep. 24 2004,06:02
ke4nt,It appears from my local copy that I may have accidentally sucked in the libflashplayer.so file itself into the tarball instead of just the symlink. It probably has something to do with following symlinks. Anyways, you can create the symlink by doing the following (this assumes that the /opt/opera directory is writable and is not currently mounted as a read only compressed ISO). It also assumes that you have the gnu-utils extension up and running: cd /opt/opera/lib/opera/plugins ln -s /opt/.firefox_plugins/libflashplayer.so Then re-create your extensions including this symlink. Opera will then automatically start using flash if and when the flash plugin gets downloaded. Posted by Patrick on Sep. 24 2004,06:27

I have rebuilt the opera6.1.2.tar.gz with the symlink..Check to see that it is working properly.. If so, feedback to me and I'll use this as the source for the .uci version.. 73 ke4nt Posted by ke4nt1 on Sep. 24 2004,06:41
Patrick:As long as you have the j2re1.4.2.tar.gz or .uci loaded BEFORE you run firefox you should have full java capability... Down either one into your /home/dsl directory ( usually does by default ) In emelfm, highlight the download by clicking on it one time ( single click ) Then press the "mydsl" button at the top center of your emelfm window Your java should be installed.. Check Yahoo Games - Text Twist for an example of java capability .. If it plays online, your java is fine.. My bank does not like any browser except Microsoft Internet Explorer.. What I did is grab a firefox plugin that spoofs itself as another browser.. Then I could use firefox to access my banking accounts.. < http://www.chrispederick.com/work/firefox/useragentswitcher/ > Change your user agent to Opera 7.54 - then try your online business 73 ke4nt Posted by Patrick on Sep. 24 2004,08:32
It doesn't work for me! (i tried your suggestions with the tar and later with the UCI, both installed fine, but in firefox 0.9.3 i couldn't play the java games of yahoo)I believe it is a matter of rights and membership of groups. ( in the "past" i frequently had to change opt/firefox ~/.Mozilla from root/root into dsl/staff) (and change the write permissions) It is sometimes confussing who i am (root or dsl) and who is the owner of firefox... I got an internal error on browser end no manager.... when i rebooted with the tar.gz in the root of my bootdevice. That's why i hoped that the uci would do better (but it didn't so that much better, firefox did startup but i can't use java) Posted by henk1955 on Sep. 24 2004,09:27

ke4nt,The new opera.tar.gz works fine. Looks like a good candidate for the *.uci rebuild. Thanks. -CB Posted by ke4nt1 on Sep. 26 2004,23:34
The firefox-0.9.3.dsl wants to use a different java version..I have completed a new java file ( j2re1.4.2_05.uci ) that works with firefox-0.9.3.dsl.. I need to add a symlink to the existing firefox-0.9.3 I will post in testing shortly after I complete further building .. I had minimal success with using this version of java in opera .. 73 ke4nt |
