Rehi again,

I'd like to have several applications open (and placed on different workspaces) at startup (because i am lazy and spoiled). Is this possible?

Example:

workspace 1: Dillo open on : http:\\www.google.nl
workspace 2: Sylspeed open
workspace 3: emelfm open
workspace 4: xMMs open (and playing?)

Guess that would be cool!

i have no idea.
< Look at Fluxbox home page for its features >

i use icewm from the myDSL repository.
< icewm home page >
it looks and behaves more like the windowmanager we all know and has the feature you request.

Hello Henk,

I've tried icewm (got it via mydsl) and after i "installed" it, nothing happend so i rebooted and then i didn't get into X (Graphical enviroment). I guess i didn't backup enough after the installation. (my usb-stick has only one partition) What does your filetool.lst look like?. Does icevm really stick applications on various workspaced at startup-time? (cause that is the only reason i want to try it)

i do not us mydsl to install extensions. (it does not give good feedback in case of an error)

i download them with firefox or glinks.
then i use the emelfm myDSL button ( or better put in root of boot disk will autoinstall then)

i did a test:
i changed /home/dsl/.icewm/startup to:
Code Sample

#xset s 300
cd /home/damnsmall
xterm &
#xtdesk &
#/opt/firefox/firefox &

now it starts xterm on start of icewm

then i changed the top lines of /home/dsl/.icewm/winoptions to:

Code Sample

# This is an example for IceWM's window options file.
#
# Place your variants in /etc/icewm or in $HOME/.icewm
# since modifications to this file will be discarded when you
# (re)install icewm.

#r*.icon: mozicon

Mozilla.icon: mozicon

xterm.icon: xterm
xterm.workspace:1

note the last line, this will make xterm start on workspace 2

Code Sample

/home/dsl/filetool.lst
/opt/ppp
/opt/bootlocal.sh
/opt/powerdown.sh
/home/dsl/bewaar
/home/dsl/.mplayer
/home/dsl/.sylpheed
/home/dsl/Mail
/home/dsl/.amsn
/home/dsl/.emelfm
/home/dsl/.amsn_received
/home/dsl/.mozilla
/home/dsl/.phoenix
/opt/.firefox_plugins
/home/dsl/.icewm
/home/dsl/.xinitrc
/home/dsl/.xserverrc
/home/dsl/.axyftp
/home/dsl/.LinNeighborhood

most important lines of my filetool.lst

<edit>
if your ~/.icewm does not have the winoptions file. copy it from /usr/share/icewm.
while you do this take menu, toolbar and preferences to.
then you can play with the setings
</edit>

Good morning Patrick,

i think i did not make clear where to put the *.dsl
if am right:
you have a usb-memorry-stick. formated 1 fat partion, it boots to dos.
this is drive C: ?
i guess your drive looks something like

command.com
msdos.sys
io.sys
dostools           <DIR>
loadlin.exe
loadlin.par
linux.bat                     <---- this calls loaldlin and starts dsl
knoppix            <DIR>  <---- contans dsl
backup.tar.gz              <-- your backed up settings
icewm.dsl                   <-- this is where you put extentions
rox.dsl
firefox.uci

then u use loadlin to start DSL.
now when you are i n DSL if you look at /cdrom you will see the /cdrom == the C: drive.
with "the root of your boot" i mean in your case C:

There i am again,

I downloaded icewm-1.2.16.tar.gz (it's in my /ramdisk/home/dsl directory). When i try to unpack it (in emelfm) nothing happens.
How do i unpack it?
Where should i unpack it?
How should  i install it (how do i get an file with the extension .dsl?)

By the way: my "c:" looks like this (your quiet right)

boot/
dos/
knoppix/
lost+found/
optional/
autoexec.bat
nackup.tar.gz
boot.cat
boot.msg
bootlog.prv
bootlog.txt
command.com
config.ini
config.sys
f2
f3
german.kbd
icewm-1.2.16.tar.gz
index.html
isolinux.bin
isolinux.cfg
idlinux.sys
linux.bat
linux24
loadlin.exe
loadlin.par
logo.16
minirt24.gx
msdos.sys
qa.b__
readme.txt
syslinux.cfg

(it's a bit of a mess i am afraid.. can you tell me which linuxfiles i can delete/move to a new folder/??)

Posted by henk1955 on Sep. 17 2004,08:36
i dont know what you have in /boot, it could be /isolinux that contains all:
boot.cat
boot.msg
bootlog.prv
bootlog.txt
command.com
config.ini
config.sys
f2
f3
german.kbd
index.html
isolinux.bin
isolinux.cfg
idlinux.sys

linux24
logo.16
minirt24.gx
readme.txt
syslinux.cfg

if so change your linux.bat so it uses /boot/isolinux etc
and remove then from c:\ (but only after you verify it works)

if think you have the wrong icewm. do not download from icewm.org. icewm-1.2.16.tar.gz should be icewm.dsl
download from:< Damn Small Linux myDSL Extensions >
you can find many more usefull extensions < there >
if you do not put them in c:\ then you can "install" them temporary.
use emelfm select the *.dsl press myDSL button
