running in RAMForum: Other Help Topics Topic: running in RAM started by: potatis Posted by potatis on Aug. 09 2004,13:40
one of the pics on the main page says "playing a music CD while running in RAM"..Is it possible to put the entire DSL in RAM, and is any extra program needed for that? Is DSL moved from the hard drive to RAM every time you boot (and the opposite when you shut down?) or how does it work? Posted by mpie on Aug. 09 2004,13:46
THe to ram is for live disk users at the boot screen f2 .........to ram option...... not requiered by HD users no benefit

mmm i would have thought there would be a slight speed benefit. ram is faster then harddrives isnt it. though there is no point doing it.

Yes quite right!!!!! my point was it's not an option HD users have as you dont get the boot options............. and you dont need to do it to play cd only live disk users with only one drive..... Posted by potatis on Aug. 10 2004,12:09
but theoretically, wouldn't it be possible to have entire DSL in RAM since it is only 50mb? and wouldn't it be -a lot- faster than hd once booted up?

yep .......it's a frugal install........ you are then limited as to what you can run by your ramsize..... maybe that 's the option you want instead of a full hd install..
