Have you tried the usb boot floppy image file that was released at the time of 0.6.3?You may need to introduce some sort of wait state to give the card time to get powered up. May also need some extra kernel module on the floppy to activate the card. Sorry I can't help more. Posted by krazynesphreak on May 27 2004,17:43
yes i have tried the boot disk, and yes i have tried a "wait state" or time waiting but none of them worked. the only time i see it power up is when the os is booting. configging itself on startup on linux and windows os, and i can`t use it in dos. thanks for adless tring to help i guess i should just use dsl the way it was mint to be use.

sounds like your BIOS is not USB aware. To boot from USB, you need to set it in the boot order in the computer's BIOS Posted by potatis on July 07 2004,14:40
Are all BIOS usb compatible? If not, is there a way too boot from usb anyway?

Not all USB bios are compatible. Last time I checked there are two standards. OHCI and UHCIOHCI = Open Host Controller Interface, usually Compaq Computers, SiS, or other not intel machines. UHCI = Universal Host Controller Interface, usually all Intel and Via systems. Also, the manufactures of USB devices do not have a standard on the default formatting of the devices. Usually, I have better luck by not formating the device and use the method of the bootusb.img as described in the Getting Started->Other Documentation->How/Tos from the Fourm->Booting DamnSmall Linux from USB |
