Hi!
I've tried out DSL now and it's very nice.

I have a CompactFlash to IDE adapter (my 64 mb CF card comes up as primary master (hda)). Is it possible to install DSL to this device and boot it, instead of a cd? Since the cd is only 50 mb.

Sure. Use frugal_instal. It is very cool. Make two partitions, a 55MB partition (hda1) for system and the remainder for your backup (hda2). So, boot from CD, make the partitions, format them, reboot so that you are sure frugal will see them. And away you go.

It worked almost.....
Everything looked fine. No error messages.

nothing happends after that.

Any ideas?

If i boot from the cd and choose to boot /dev/hda1 it boots perfetcly from the cf card...
maby something is wrong in lilo.conf? (lba32/ scsi emu.?).
How can i change it and update it on the cf card?

Hurray!!!

I googled around and all i had to do was to set the "hard drive" to LARGE.

Now i have a fully operational computer, 100% quiet. No cpu fan, no psu fan, and no harddrive... Ill make a donation first thing in the morning :)

:) I'd like to know if the DSL can work with the Video for Linux, based in BT878 video capture card? or I will have to expand the DSL and rebuild it ?
Have someone ever had some experience with video capture and DSL?

Paulo, this is probably not the best place to post but, I think the video capture card should be supported in the kernel. You just need to find a viewing program, this may be limited however by the Xserver that DSL uses. I think theres a fluxbox docking app and theres even a program you can run on the command line (ie not running any graphic environments).

Unfortunately I'm still a bit of a newb to Linux, I'm sure there are other people out there who can help you further.:;):

Hi there,

I am trying to install DSL on a CF medium (/dev/hdc1), searching the forums I found "frugal". Ok, but the problem is frugal wants my CF to be primary-master (hda)?

Can anybody tell me please, if there is a way to install it on hdc (no, there is no way to install the CF on the primary channel...) ? why is this limitiation to hda?

Besides, is there any documentation out there for frugal? anybody knowing another way to install on CF??

thanks a lot & please excuse my poor english

I too am needing to install dsl to CF card which is not primary master.

My system sees the CF card as /dev/sda1 and am not sure how to make this a primary master - I am using a compaq presario desktop and have a USB CF reader.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Alot depends on the hosting device/bus for the compact flash. If you plug a CF into pcmcia card then you need to get a pcmcia boot floppy. This has been done and works. It was posted about (search fourms) . If your CF is hosted by USB, I would try the usb boot floppy and try that. Follow the instructions as if it were a pen drive and try. Since, I don't have access to such device. I can only give you some ideas to try.

Good Luck.
