I have no clue what file I'm suppose to download there's a list of em....  I'm not sure if I'm suppose to download all or some or one...  please just supply me with a link to specifically what files or file I should download.  Support would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Scipio

Here is the link to the latest version....enjoy!
< ftp://ibiblio.org/pub....6.3.iso >

Don't forget to check the MD5sum of your download against this file
< ftp://ibiblio.org/pub....md5.txt >

You can find WinMD5 for windows at

or simply run "md5sum damnsmall-0.6.3.iso" from most linux command prompts

Thanks!  That's what I thought it was, but I was dreading it because of my connection speed.  After I download this to I write it to a disc?  That'd be great, because then my old PC would have a purpose.  I also have an old laptop which probably only has about 50mb of hard drive space, and a floppy disc drive.  Is there any way I can get DSL onto it?  Without the method of floppy after floppy.

If it's additional software that you are uncertain of, just do a google search with the name, e.g. "firefox + linux" or "synaptic + linux". First however have a look at the Damn Small docs page. Theres a list and brief description of whats included in the distro.

There sure are some fascinating titles out there, ettercap, ogg vorbis, the Gimp, Mutt & ratpoison :)

Make sure you burn the disc as an iso (one of your burners options) or it won't work.

For the laptop do a forum search for the frugal or poormans install and read the Laptops section of the forum.
These should help:-

"In essence, MD5 is a way to verify data integrity, and is much more reliable than checksum and many other commonly used methods."
from < Unoffical MD5 homepage >

Basically, that relatively tiny number is a unique "description" of a file, (in this case the DSL iso) so a program that understands the MD5 code can make sure that every single byte is as it should be. (the file has not been corrupted during the download)

E.g., you don't want to waste a CD by burning a corrupt ISO on to it, so you use the MD5 code to check.
