Open up a terminal window and type "bsetbg -f /path_to_your_background_image"That should do it. More information can be found at the Fluxbox website... < http://fluxbox.sourceforge.net/docbook.php > Posted by MrWindowsNT4 on Mar. 31 2004,07:44

I am very new to linux as well. I'm happy to answer what questions I can. I've spent many hours reading and trying to understand help files and FAQs before this forum came out. I'm sure that I'm not the only one that's been waiting for this forum to start up. Now that it's here, I'm surprised how many people have joined. Over 1200 now! Now we need to get more people in the IRC channel.

Maybe a simple script could be developed for this? I think I could come up with a very poor one, but what I think we really want is a "browse for image" selector, not just a "type in the path to your image"? (Obviously I haven't done much scripting...)I've had some very rough thoughts on maybe ways of allowing desktop icons to be added / moved / changed as well, but haven't really sat down to nut it out... Things like these are basics that windoze users get frustrated over when you need to track down coding just to change your desktop / menu / etc., when maybe a few simple scripts could be added to make it a little more user-friendly. Doesn't need to be drag-and-drop... Posted by dbennett on April 20 2004,14:30
Rogue speller...Changing your desktop/s background is very easy in Linux; if you're using a full Linux distribution. SuSE, RedHat, Mandrake, etc. DSL is not a "sissy user" distribution. It is for a particular purpose- working in a constrained environment. It does not have all the bells and whistles a full distribution offers for a reason. DSL is about getting computing functionality in place- pretty pictures may be nice, but add little to the _need_. Dave Make it work, <-- DSL is this one! Make it fast, Make it pretty. One of the other main uses of DSL is as an introduction to Linux to people who have never seen or used it before. Simple scripts to change the background would be tiny, and make newbie life simpler.DSL works. DSL is fast. And with tiny mods, DSL can look damn pretty too - even for "sissy users" |
