)Okay I just burnt DSL and it is my first experience with Linux ever. My first problem is HOW DO I GET A COMMAND PROMPT!? I know this is probably REALLY REALLY simple, but i just cannot figure it out, all three computers i've tried it on automatically boot it to Knoppix and i cannot get a prompt from there.  Secondly, I have a Pentium 133 with 73 MB RAM (don't ask how i have 73 lol :p) and a serial mouse, it is AT with no PS/2 ports or USB ports.  When the Knoppix GUI loads there is a mouse but it won't move or respond to anything so i need a keyboard interrupt or something to get to a command prompt and i also need to know what I should be typing there.  Thanks any help is appreciated.

Just right click on the background, and what you're looking for is Xshells >> rxvt. Or, Run Program and type in rxvt. Or, Enhance the desktop with icons and click on XTerminal. Or, (worst case) Control-Alt-Backspace to shut down the graphical interface altogether.

Check out the menus, there's a lot of stuff there.

Have a play around with all the menu items, you wont do any harm, that is the beauty of DSL.

Welcome to Linux.

The right click button (neigther does the left one) does not work. because the mouse is over the webbrowser window. i also have no clue wut "Xshells >> rxvt" means...is that what I should type? but still my mouse clicks don't work, the mouse works in WIN98SE though.

Try typing "knoppix 2" at the boot prompt (without the quotes). This will work for both DSL liveCD and for Knoppix liveCD.

It will then boot you into the textmode command line.

If you are stuck in graphics mode without a working mouse, you can exit Xwindows by pressing CTL-ALT-BACKSPACE keys.

Then edit your xsetup file (I think it is now located in /opt directory somewhere) to try and fix the mouse problem.

To retry XWindows again, type "startx".

Good Luck.

the only way i can get the mouse to work is to boot into expert and configure the mouse as microsoft serial.  I'd like to install DSL to my HD so i don't have to do this anymore but im having trouble witht that too. (im going to post that up in the HD install thread) but the mouse works for now under expert. thanks for the help.
