I just did a HD install of dsl 1.4. everything is working great except there is no sound out of my back speakers(i have a 5.1 speaker setup). they worked fine with other distros but they all had the newer kernel, so could this be the problem? any suggestions on how to correct the problem?

thanx

Give the alsadebs.dsl extension a try.  It is located in the myDSL repository.

Read the alsadebs.dsl.info file for detailed instructions.

OK i think i unstalled the alsa driver wrong. it says to:
1. Start up DSL with the "dsl alsa" boot command.
2. Install the gnu-utils.dsl myDSL extension.
3. Install the dsl-dpkg.dsl myDSL extension.
4. Install this extension alsadebs.dsl
5. Choose "Install ALSA" from the myDSL menu.

when it says "Start up DSL with the "dsl alsa" boot command"   ok i have a hard drive install....is this talking about when you boot the live cd? how do start up dsl with a boot command on a hd install? thanx for the help

Yes.

If you have a hard drive install, you will need to add the word "alsa" to your APPEND statement inside your bootloader configuration file and then activate the changes with your bootloader.

For LILO, I believe that the file is located at /etc/lilo.conf

and the command to activate your changes is

lilo -v

search the forums for keyword lilo.conf to get more information
