Really sorry - but it seems that its not enough to read the forums. Its the little/simple things that keep tripping me up.So I thought, surely I am not alone. Perhaps a a thread allowing us to ask the silly questions is in order? Well here goes.... Posted by Reresh on Aug. 14 2005,21:57
Where do I find filetool.lst ? It doesn't seem to be in /ramdisk/home/dsl I am using CDRom to boot and loading DSL from USB - and I want to reload my installed programs and related directories. Posted by Reresh on Aug. 14 2005,22:22
OK - found it - discovered that the 'H' adjacent near to the top in emelfm (file browser) actually toggles hidden files. And - of course filetool.lst is in there - hidden. However of particular note is the fact that there seems to be no distinction in postings (and documentation, it seems) between '.filetool.lst' and 'filetool.lst'. That's because it was only recently changed to being a hidden file, and the documentation has not been updated. Our documentation is going through radical changes atm, so expect good things soon. -J.P. Posted by Reresh on Aug. 15 2005,18:36
Thank you - that's useful to know.I have an image I created using 'make my dsl' - and it works really well on a PC which uses PS2 mouse - but not with USB mouse. Obviously this is very limiting. How do I find my USB mouse? Posted by mstrhelix on Aug. 15 2005,20:53
boot into dsl with these optionsboot: dsl xsetup or boot dsl regularly and open an xterm and type xsetup.sh when it asks you if you have a USB mouse select yes Posted by Reresh on Aug. 15 2005,23:15
Thank you Mister. It worked. How can I set these as default? I am already using backup/restore capabilty. Posted by ke4nt1 on Aug. 16 2005,01:09
If you are using the default backup options in .filetool.lst and .xfiletool.lst,it should be backing up the majority of the contents of your /home/dsl dir. Within it should be your /home/dsl/.xserverrc file, which contains your new mouse setup, generated from the xsetup.sh file. DSL usually picks up your backup.tar.gz file automatically at boottime, unless you have multiple copies in your filesystems. Then it might pick up the wrong one first.. Try adding the backup option at boottime to yor startup options. " restore=hdXx " i.e " dsl dma toram restore=hda3 mydsl=hda3 host=ke4nt_laptop1 secure " 73 ke4nt Posted by Reresh on Aug. 16 2005,07:08
Thanks ke4nt.Here is xsetup after running "dsl xsetup" at boot screen: exec /usr/bin/X11/Xvesa -mouse /dev/input/mice,5 -screen 1024x768x24 -shadow -nolisten tcp -I &>/dev/null Is it possible to default boot to detect whatever mouse I have connected - including of course USB mouse. And set UK english keyboard. I would also like to boot from floppy but load from USB, by default? Posted by Fré on Aug. 16 2005,17:36
I'm quite new to linux but I love the damn small linux live cd's. I live in Belgium so I use an azerty keyboard. When I use DSL I have to switch it from qwerty to azerty or latin-be. In the earlier versions I could easily do that but the last two or three versions don't seem to switch: the setup shows azerty is the lay-out I'm using, whatever I type it still comes out as qwerty. What can I do about this? |
