I need to depackage something called driverloader because it supposedly might have the ability to load a windows driver for a Linksys G-w/ speed boost pcimcia wireless card. I knew that DSL was debian based........... and I then found that the depackaging commands were left out to keep it under 50 megs. I found the page on the DSL site talking about apt-get and it said in a round about way how to restore dpkg. I took that file and unpackaged it inside the /var/lib directory. "The way to do this is to download the compressed dpkg file from here and move it to '/var/lib/', then uncompress it: tar zxvf dpkg.tar.gz After that just 'apt-get update' and then Apt should be fully functional. If you have net access, type 'sudo dpkg-restore' in your term window." I uncompressed it there and "apt-get update" does nothing. If I "sudo dpkg-restore" it just goes to the next line and doesn't give me an error, but it also doesn't appear to do anything . dpkg still doesn't work. I was being stupid. The words in that paragraph are crossed out b/c the instructions are incorrect. you just "dpkg-restore" in the directory that the zipped file is in........... when someone crosses out something it ALWAYS means that it is incorrect like when we where in school.
